What is My Computer's MAC Address?

A Media Access Control (MAC) address, also known as the Physical Address, is a unique hardware identifier for your specific computer. The MAC address is not the same as your computer's Host ID. While connected to a network, a lookup table relates your MAC address to your IP (Internet Protocol) address. You will need your computer's MAC for a floating (network) license when activating the license on server computer.

To determine your MAC (physical) address, you can use the Windows Command Prompt.

  1. Launch the command prompt using the Run window (press Win+R on your keyboard).

  2. Type cmd or cmd.exe and click OK to open a command window.

  3. Type ipconfig /all and press Enter.

  4. A Physical Address displays for each adapter. The Physical Address is your device’s MAC address and typically has the form "XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX".

If more than one MAC address is shown, use the address associated with your wired network (LAN interface). Do not use addresses associated with wireless routers, tunnel adapters, virtual adapters, etc.
